The latter can have results that are sometimes a pain in the a$s (e.g. have to enter passwords again, etc.) but should clear up the bugs. That was fifteen minutes ago, and it's still spinning... I'm guessing there are some tags in a TextEdit document that the server isn't allowing, but posting it into a plain-text-only email strips those out and makes the file digestible.
