I will be in Columbia later this month and would like a good BBQ place. (Not Maurice's). I want the SC-style BBQ with the mustard sauce. Buffets with sides would rock. I know that Little Pigs was great, but I don't know if it's still around. What's up?

    1. Little Pigs is still around and still good. Unfortunately, the Alpine Rd location recently caught fire and is being rebuilt. However, I hear they're open at their Broad River Rd location (which I have never eaten at). Go and tell us how it is!

      1. There is Palmetto Pig on the corner of Pulaski and Green and then you've got Doc's BBQ and Southern Buffet on Shop Rd. I think Big T's is still out on Garner's Ferry in a strip mall across from Wal-mart. I prefer Doc's.

        1. I like the Hudson's in Lexington, not far from the interstate exit. Love the sweet potato fries

          1. J.D. Hite in West Columbia is terrific. Take out only, however. Get some hash to go along with the barbecue. Open Thurs.- Sat.

            1. Docs BBQ on shop rd is the best BBQ place I have had so far.Its a buffet around $10.00 with drink 2 styles of pork, meaty chicken, hash , greens and more. Have not scene Big T's and I work around there. Maurice's is terrible BBQ, I dont know how they are such a huge chain never see anyone there at lunch. have not tried hudsons or little pigs. But theres a OK place around the dam in irmo Grannys another buffet its not bad not a fan of thier mustard pulled pork.

              1. By the way, I have been to Columbia twice now since my original post and have visited: Doc's, Hudson's Smokehouse, and Little Pigs. While all three are excellent representatives of SC BBQ, Hudson's Smokehouse is above and beyond one of the best BBQ spots I've been to in a long while. The atmosphere is so completely awesome, which is really what puts it over the top. All 3 have awesome buffet-style selections with superior food, but the smoke flavor is so deep and rich on the Hudson's pork. I was tempted to order the brisket, and I will be heading back to SC for no other reason than to do so.
