Brooks and Porter in Merrick has good food. Farther east in West Sayville is 21 Main. Not as good as Teller's IMO but close.

There's Vintage in St. James. It's an old house with a funky men's club decor. Great steaks and a reasonable wine list. Sagamore Steakhouse in Syosset is a winner also.

Morton's has a special on gift certificates at the holidays. I think it's an extra $50 is you buy $300 in gift certificates. The good thing about Morton's gift certificates is if you choose to use them in the city, as apposed to LI, or if you know you will be on vacation somewhere that has one, you can use it. They also have a great special, $99 for 2 for a 3 course meal.

Tellers in Islip. Peter Luger in Great Neck. I'd be happy with either of those.

+1 for both Tellers (get the rib eye, it is so impressive with the bone in)

and Lugers (porterhouse, cream spinach, home fries, fried onions and for dessert anything with schlag on it)
