New high end vegan in Chicago?

Danimal Oct 29, 2009 05:23 PM

My partner and I will be heading to Chicago in two weeks for our anniversary dinner. I've looked through all the posts from the past two years. We ate at Green Zebra last year and weren't that impressed. I've seen Lula and North Pond mentioned a few times, but we avoid cheese in addition to meat. I've been looking at Crofton on Wells and Topolobampo. Any other suggestions?

You should go to Karens Raw . Since you are vegan, you will love this gourmet raw dining expereince. For vegan cooked food go to Karen's Cooked. For a more casual meal the Chicago Diner is meat-less and they have lots of vegan options. Enjoy!

Have you been to Trotters? Supposedly they have a vegetarian multi course fixed price menu. I'm sure if you specified that you want it to be Vegan that they'd be able willing to accomodate you two. Another place recently opened called Mana Food Bar. I haven't been there but it looks good. Not as high end as Trotters. Whatever you decide, please let us know where and how it was! My fiance and I are both vegan and I would love to find something to save him and treat him to.

Some of the staff at Trotters have commented about patrons who insist on a vegan (not vegetarian) menu and then indulge in desserts packed with butter and cream.

That's weird. I guess they weren't really vegan.

Mana Food Bar is quite good. Cool vibe also. I'd like their potions to be a little bigger, but for context, I tend to have a big appetite.
