New Bay Area transplant that needed to find an In-and-Out replacement. Mission Accomplished!

I love burgers and have read the reviews on the variety of great burger places in Austin. Always a debate between thick and thin patties and fries. If you are the thin/thin type - thin patties, this and crispy fries then a great place to try is Mooyah on Reseach and Burnet. If you are a closet In-and-Out fan and waiting for the day they land in Austin (never) then Mooyah in my opinion is even better. Why? They have bacon to add to their excellent In-and-Out Double Double with much better fries than In-and-Out. Takes a little bit of time to get your freshly made yummy greasy goodness but it's worth it. Check it out!

They changed this Mooyah over to a Geaux Burger last week. The Geaux burger tasted pretty close to Mooyah's, but I believe the topping choices were a little different. Fries were the same as Mooyah.

Strange. Wonder what happened? The Burnet location is still listed at mooyah.com.

Yeah, I noticed it was still on their website, but they've since taken it off. The 9070 Research address is the Burnet location (unless there's another one further down on Burnet that I don't know about). I checked, and the Benihana right next to the old Mooyah has a 9070 Research address, even though it too faces Burnet.

Silly side note... we liked Mooyah, but have been choosing Five Guys over them, partly because of their "Sproke" (as in their Cokes taste like they're mixed with Sprite or 7-Up). The Geaux Burger has kept the Sproke formula, unfortunately. Sometimes it's the littlest things...

Wow - although I have tried this location, I did try the Burnet Road location and was completely unimpressed. There is no way I could favorably compare their burger to In-n-Out. Maybe I'll give this location a try.

I have never tried In-n-Out, but I also was not impressed by Mooyah (this Burnet location). Much better options down the street--Top Notch, and now Hat Creek.

Maybe Geax will change a few things...

One thing I will say for Mooyah--I was very pleased with the quality of their veggie burgers. They used black bean patties, which is always a plus for me--and though on the greasy side, I enjoy them as an occasional trashy treat. Very useful to have a place to go with burger-desiring carnivorous companions.

Most of the Austin semi-fast food burger places don't seem to bother with veggie burgers at all, so I can't compare to many; better than Fuddrucker's, at least, which has acceptable patties but nothing worth seeking out. Haven't tried Terra Burger yet, though I'm very curious.

Anyone know if Geaux Burger is using the same veggie burgers as Mooyah? If so, I'll be back. If not, alas...

I crave In-and-Out all the time. In fact saw reference to it last night on CSI L.A. and it made me want grab a flight to the west coast! There are lots of opinions on here about Austin's burger scene and for the money the closest to I&O for me is the Little Red Wagon in Round Rock... Hwy 79 east just past Sunrise Drive. Try the double double combo for only $5.73 with tax. Don't take it out as you need to eat in the joint to enjoy the atmosphere! Happy Burger Hunting... -CTX
