Restaurants overlooking the lake on the Southshore

Good Afternoon-

We'll be coming into New Orleans soon and while in town are going to meet up with family for lunch. From what I can tell, the weather is supposed to be beautiful.

Are there any restaurants on the Southshore that overlook the Lake where we could eat lunch outdoors in the beautiful weather? I'm thinking of something like how Sid Mar's was (which obviously is not an option) or something like Rip's on the Lake -- but I'm looking for something on the Southshore rather than the Northshore. Or am I just completely SOL?

Thanks in Advance!

    1. Really the only restaurant in NO with a view of the lake is Landry's Seafood. The view is beautiful but the food is so-so.

both food and service are dreadful at Landry's. such a waste of a great space.

if you're willing to head a bit west toward LaPlace, go to Peavine Rd for either The Crab Trap or Frenier's Landing.

call Crab Trap first, as it may be seasonal.

Note: the Crab Trap is more of a seafood shack than an actual restaurant. While it is near the lake, it doesn't technically have a view, unless you go upstairs to the snowball stand's porch.

the food is absolutely awful at landrys. i love crab and they even managed to turn me off their crab platter.

it is a shame since its such a nice spot.

                • It doesn't fit the Southshore criterion, but I'll just mention that I very much enjoyed the new deck at Middendorf's last Sunday during the Saint's game.

                    1. Thanks all for the responses. Middendorf's was actually going to be the next choice on the list, so I'm glad to hear that you had a good time on their deck last weekend, uptownlibrarian.

It was really lovely. They do have one TV out there but it's totally ignorable if you're not into sports or whatever. You can watch activity on both lakes, and the sunset over Lake Maurepas was beautiful. The mosquitos did come out strong at dusk, so wear sleeves, or I guess you could bring spray.

I'm glad to hear good things about Middendorf's...I have thousands of pleasant memories of sailing over there..I should have married some of those girls I went there with

                            2. Just wanted to follow-up and say that we did end up having lunch at Middendorfs last Sunday. When we got there at noon we had our choice of tables, ordered at the bar and our food came out within minutes. But by the time we left, the line was all the way to the enterance of the patio!

As Uptownlibrarian mentioned, the views are amazing and the patio is very nice. It was a great place to have lunch and enjoy the weather.
