Takeout options around Queen East meeting spot...?

Hello all,

I am going to a meeting on Thursday and this time I am in charge of picking up the food. I think our budget is around 8 a person and there are usually 8 or so people. Any suggestions of interesting dinner options? The meeting spot is around Queen East and DVP but I am coming from the west end so I could pick up something along the way. In the past we have had Thai, Chinese, sandwiches. Looking for something that would taste pretty decent even if it got a bit cold. I don't think there are any vegetarians in the group but something with variety would help just to make sure everyone gets something that they enjoy.
Maybe a middle eastern place around there? If not maybe a good non-chain pizza place?

  1. it's a bit over your budget, but Gandhi's a good choice and can easily be reheated since it comes in foil container...have the over ready!

Oops, I made a type in the thread title (had it right in the message). I meant Queen "East" not west. Maybe another suggestion for Indian closer to Queen East . Is there an edit function on Chowhound? Don't know how to go and change that now.

    2. Loic Gourmet, SukhoThai, Hanoi 3 Seasons would all be good. Loic would be more than 8 a head, although that might depend on how much you eat. My partner and I regularly split and entree and a salad from them and it works fine for us (and would be close to your price request). Rotis from The Real Jerk or take-out sushi from the new sushi joint at Queen & Broadview are other cheap options. Lil Baci could probably be done for around 10 a head if you're satisfied with smaller portions.

I recently tried Loic for the first time and the vegetarian sandwich was delicious. Great bread. The cauliflower salad was also very good. Beet salad was fine, nothing special. I'd go back for sure.
I like L'il Baci also. Although not sure about takeout.
Can't think of any Indian around there unless you want to drive to Gerrard and go to Siddhartha.

        2. I haven't tried this spot as yet but it's getting good reviews (NOW mag) &

So I ended up using Tearingmonkey's suggestion and getting take out at Tommaso's. I went in and told him I had $8 to spend a person and he made up a container or pasta and a container of veal plus through in some garlic bread. Everyone was happy with the food and there was left over afterwards also. Having an Italian background myself I can say the food was pretty good (compared to Italian bakeries pasta/veal and compared even to some Italian weddings I have been to). Overall the owner seems friendly and I would recommend this place to others for takeout or a bite there.

          2. Thanks for all of the suggestions so far. Will check again tomorrow and report back on what I end up deciding on and how it goes.... There are some older people in the group and I am not sure if they are even adventurous enough for sushi so trying for something interesting but relatively "safe"..
