We're cruising out of San Juan on November 1st and will be in San Juan for dinner on October 31st and breakfast on November 1st and are looking for recommendations for some great places to eat near the Sheraton Old San Juan. We would prefer to be able to walk and not take a cab. We like all kinds of food but are always looking to try something we can't get at home when we travel. Thanks!

I just returned from a trip to San Juan and had some amazing meals. I'm planning on writing up a report soon, but in the meanwhile I'll make two recommendations that fit your parameters.

First and foremost -- I can't recommend Marmalade highly enough:

Truly one of the best dining experiences I've ever had -- and located right in the heart of Old San Juan. The chef, Peter, was very gracious and his dishes were some of the most creative I've ever eaten. (For instance, he made a gnocchi curry on the fly as part of a vegetarian tasting that was incredible.) Do the tasting and wine pairing. The atmosphere is lovely as well.

Across the street from Marmalade we had very good Indian food (Tantra). The martinis were the highlight, though. My advice would be "Do not pass Go, Do not collect $200, Go Directly to Marmalade." Then finish up the evening with a few Martinis at Tantra.

    Have a lovely trip!

Lunch at Pikayo? Dinner at Dragonfly and dessert and drinks and music at Carli's Cafe?
