It's one of those cool coffee-shops that does things right and stays ecological. Vegan and Vegetarian bakery items, fair-trade coffees and organic teas. Free wi-fi. Cool people. Over the past three years, this little cafe on Pier Avenue in Hermosa Beach has been a gathering place for locals who love strong, great tasting coffee - new and exciting desserts and some great company. Recently, Planet Earth took some time off to restore and rejuvenate. Amongst the many changes was the inclusion of Raw Food Chef, Lawrence Todd (Terra Bella). His Earthsong Raw Food Menu is outstanding as he uses all fresh and organic ingredients and environmentally sound practices. A very popular dish is the organic Kale and Spinach salad called "Iron Man". A huge bowl of garlic and lemon rubbed greens and sprouts has certainly been a hit. Really, the first time I have eaten Kale that wasn't bitter or difficult to chew. Along with the entrees (ranging from $10-$14) you can find a full menu of smoothies and drinks ($8-12) and a complete array of raw food desserts ($8+). To keep things fresh, Chef Todd features a daily soup and pasta ranging from traditional to new creations. Everything he does is seasonal, so this fall you'll find pumpkins, tomatoes and other delicious seasonal treats. When PE was just a cafe, the hours were short. Now, the duo has expanded their hours from 7A-8P Tuesday through Friday. 8A-8P Saturday and Sunday. Closed Mondays.
