Going to a concert tonight and it will end early, about 8:30. Need a rec for a moderate priced ($25-30 pp) nearby. Anything but Asian and seafood places.

TIA

Pio Pio is a good choice. Gabriela's is a good choice (Columbus & 94th). A little further away, there's B Cafe (Amsterdam & 88th) or Gennaro (Amsterdam & 92nd). Edgar's also opened an outpost on Amsterdam at 92nd if you are looking for coffee/dessert somewhere afterwards. I think the wine bar/tapas place Buceo (on 95th) is probably out of your price range.

Thanks for the recs. Even tho it's Mexican I think Gabriela's is our choice. Pio Pio is a Nio Nio as wife doesn't eat chicken.

Is your wife vegetarian? My two favorite veg dishes at Gabriela's are the tomato & avocado quesedillas and a spinach and mushroom entree (sorry, can't remember what it's called).

They also have an excellent tequila selection. Beware that the drinks they make by hand (not the frozen machine drinks) are very very strong, especially the ones made by the people who come around with the drink cart. Really good but very strong.

Semi vegetarian, if there is such a thing. We did share a mushroom apetizer, which was excellent. I had beef enchiladas and she had chili rellanos, both very good. Only negative was my rice and refried beans wasn't very hot (temp-wise). Also appreciated the two salsas with the chips, one spicy, one not so spicy. Program at Symphony Space had an ad from Gabriella's offering a free frozen Margarita for our ticket stub, which we took advantage of. (I'm an up Margarita person, but this one was OK, and strong, not like a 7-11 Slushie.

Glad you had a good time. I'm not a fan of the rice there, I have to say (I do love the potatoes they serve during brunch instead). And that's good to know about the Symphony Space - Margarita connection. :) I'll have to remember to look out for that. We've purchased pints of their salsas since we like them so much. Thanks for reporting back.

Yes, the free Margarita was a treat. Note to Gabriela's: Put the cost of the Margaritas on the check, then deduct the cost so the waitperson would get a tip based on the TRUE check amount. No sense in cheating them.
