Good eats at Bayview/Eg, Mountpleasant or Davisville area please!
Looking for suggestions on a great place to eat in this area. I don't need anything totally upscale, just great service, good wine list and a nice atmosphere. The only thing I'm not fussy on is fish. Suggestions welcomed!!!!! Thanks!

Simple Bistro and Mogette are two excellent Bistros. Zee Grill has wonderful cooked seafood. Amaya has passable to good Indian food. Would love to add Celestin but unsure of current status with Pascal Ribeau no longer at the helm?! ( Sold?! )

re: Charles Yu
We really enjoy Phebes Zee Grill, and went recently with a group, most ordered meat.
In my opinion the best of the Mt. Pleasant strip.
Have not tried Simple yet, and it receives excellent reviews.
I have a problem with Mogette.
Food is good, not excellent.
Very noisy, even when it is not busy, and last week, we were five people, and could not carry on a conversation unless we wanted to scream above the crowd, which we didn't, so conversation was almost non existent.
Mussels and frites are very good, but the main course is skimpy, about app.size.
Had dinner this evening at Amaya
The Tandoori Lamb chops are delicious.
Very thick overly generous portion, and never overcooked.
Even DH was too full to finish the last chop.-----

You are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT about the noise at Mogette - I actually really loved the food, but my Mom and I skipped dessert and went home because she stopped talking... it was simply too hard to hear each other across a not very large table!

re: Otownfoodie
I really like Phebe's. Much of the menu is fish and seafood-based, but the non-fishy options are excellent as well. It's a non-pretentious place with a neighbourhood vibe, but serves food that is a notch or two above what you might expect. I've been a few times and it has never disappointed. The only negative comment I'd offer is that some dishes are on the small side, particularly fish dishes, while a few are quite large (ie. Jambalaya). Best to ask, letting your server know how hungry you are.
I also like the sushi place on Yonge, just south of Davisville. I can't think of the name right now, but it is next to a Firkin pub.

the sushi place is called 'i zu'. love this place...especially since the reno's. along with making it bigger, they expanded the menu. prices are still about the same, and the fish has always been fresh and tasty.
also really enjoy the atmosphere at coquine. it can be a bit loud, but super for a night out with friends.
