I would love to have the recipe of the salad dressing that used to be served with the platters at Amazona's before the restaurant closed and unfortunately became Carmines. Not that Amazonas was so fantastic, no where near as good as Marathon or Parthenon, yet i find myself really missing that salad, i know that i can create that simple blend of cabbage and iceberg at home but would love to have some imput as to what you guys think went it to that house dressing!

OMG, I loved that salad too but was never able to figure out exactly what was in it. It is one of my favorite all-time salad dressings and I miss it so!!! I would say mayo and garlic would certainly factor in but I have no idea what else. Any other guesses?

There has gotta be more to it than that. I've made mayo, garlic, pepper, lemon juice and it didn't taste anything close to the Amazona dressing. I am thinking that there is maybe oregano and there's gotta be something more but it has been a long time since I have had that salad.

I'm guessing mayo, maybe even some plain yogurt, olive oil, S&P, vinegar (cider or red wine), and oregano.

I lived in the building across the street while a student and got a ton of takeout that year- portions big enough to feed me for 3 days!

oh, and garlic, i forgot garlic! having intimate knowledge of the greek restaurant industry, I am guessing powdered garlic, and dried parsley too. But, by all means, use fresh!

I've had something similar to what your describing and it was made from eggs, oil, mustard powder, vinegar , lemon , garlic , oregano , sugar , dill ,salt , pepper , chick base. It makes a creamy dressing that goes well with a cabbage and iceberg type salad that you describe. Hope it helps . Good luck.
