5 Days in Ft. Worth: help!

I have a conference in Ft. Worth for five nights and I have no clue where to eat. I am from Los Angeles so my priority is to try the cuisine of the region first but im open after that. I'm staying near the convention center but i will have time to venture out if its worth the trip.
Thank you in advance!

Add Ellerbe Fine Foods to the growing number of restaurants located on Magnolia, Ft Worth's Southside. As a converted gas station, it's chic and upscale though casual, with menu selections to equal - for those familiar, think Hattie's, Bishop Arts.

Their menu is seasonal, using local ingredients as available. Other items are flown fresh from "non-local, local establishments"; ie - French loaves (excellent) come from Gambino's, New Orleans.

The online menus are current to what is actively served, but specifically, I tried/ordered both the pulled pork sandwich (on house made ciabatta bread) and the shrimp po-boy. I'd order either again, with my favorite being the po-boy - exceptionally flavorful shrimp with a light cornmeal exterior , tomato-y tomato slices and a French roll that was light on the inside and crusty on the outside.

The pork was cooked perfectly - soft, moist and tender, but lacked a in flavor, even with the cole slaw and red onion additions. Perhaps I'm too used to the smoked variety..... The star on the plate were the 3 slices of Fire and Ice Pickles - somewhat sweet with a firey finish. Nearly melt-on-your-tongue potato "chips" came with the po-boy and french fries with the pork.

They have a small "market" as you enter. Sadly, they're not currently available (I called this morning), but if you ever see those "Fire and Ice pickles" - grab a jar! Though it was a crowded lunch hour, we were seated quickly, but unfortunately, I simply forgot to browse the market before we left. I look forward to my next visit.

Others will disagree probably, but we usually take visitors to:

Tex/Mex - Joe T. Garcia's - http://www.joets.com/ - if you can sit on the patio and drink margaritas. Otherwise, I'd go elsewhere.

Texan - Reata - http://www.reata.net/fort-worth-restaurant.html - I'd personally pick this over Lonesome Dove

The Burger Shack in the stockyards

Here's a similar thread from earlier this year - http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/382030 - including the recommendations for Bistro Louise and Hedary's Lebanese.

Nonna Tata is well worth adjusting your schedule to fit their odd hours. I don't think they prepare any misses. Be certain to save your appetite for one of the desserts! Even though they don't open until 5:30, I try to be there by 4:30, 4:45 in order to ensure a first seating. During fair weather, the time is enjoyed conversing with others while waiting.

(For those in the area, but just can't wait or don't have the time to dine-in, I've seen a number of take-outs leave the premises.)

I'm sorry to see (from the eatthisftworth site) that salads are no longer included in entree pricing.

For local flavor (though I haven't been), there's Tim Love's, Lonesome Dove which includes the usual suspects of steak, poultry and fish, as well as wild game options.

and for a more relaxed, kicked-back TX feel, his burger shack, The Love Shack, is just around the corner featuring great burgers and live honky-tonk music. Note that this is outdoor seating only. (I would avoid the parm potato chips as well his newer Love Shack So7

        )

Both of these are north of downtown in the truly historic FW stockyards. If time and weather allows, this is a great venue for strolling the street and becoming acquainted with TX cowboy history - museums, rodeo, daily cattle drives etc.

Chow searching any of these options will provide additional info.

I hope you enjoy your visit!

Just as point of clarification, the linked "Burger Shack" above was not intended to be the *name* of a restaurant, but a descriptor of The Love Shack.

For something pretty original try Ocean Rock in the bluebonnet circle. I crave thier Carribbean nachos covered with grilled seafood.

I highly agree with Railhead and Angelos. I also love Dutches, by tcu, for burgers. And for good mexican I would recommend Los Vaqueros or The Original. And of corse, Joe T. Garcias.

There are two excellent BBQ joints in Ft. Worth : Angelo's and The Railhead. Angelo's is older, more traditional. Railhead newer, bigger crowds.
Although I haven't been, Lanny's gets high marks on this board for fancy, well thoughtout Mexican food.
            For hamburgers, don't miss Kincaid's.
You should eat the grilled chicken at El Pollo Regio just to see how good grilled chicken can be. I think there are two locations in Fort worth.
I hope someone will log on and give you some tips for some good TexMex, as it would be a shame not to try it while you are in Fort Worth.

Nonna Tata would also be a good choice over on Magnolia
              http://eatthisfortworth.com/index.php/2009/01/nonna-tata/

I would skip Fuzzy's or Yucatan Taco Stand and go to a more authentic taco stand. It will be cheaper and better.
I personally like Taqueria El Progreso up at Main and Long for the puerco en adobo tacos
You might give Hot Damn Tamales a try. I haven't personally been but have heard good things.

Might try out this blog for suggestions

Buttons would be a good choice

Welcome to Cowtown! Eating vegetarian in Fort Worth is not as daunting as it may seem, and it is an awesome city! Spiral Diner is completely vegan and mostly organic. Other great choices in Fort Worth:
Cafe Modern at the Modern Art Museum, King Tut, Lili's Bistro, Original Mexican (their rice and beans are vegetarian, Chadra Mezza, Thai Tina's, Bombay Grill, and Tokyo Sushi (ask for Mary, the owner-tell her I sent you). As far as downtown, your best bets are PF Chang's, Taverna (they have an awesome butternut squash gnocchi - vegetarian, but not vegan), Cantina Laredo (they can work with vegetarians-get vegetables on the side instead of rice and beans), and The Vault. Good luck, and have fun!

OOPS - I was on this site looking for vegetarian recipes, so I thought you were vegetarian as well. Even if you're not, the restaurants I listed above are all outstanding!
