I forgot to ask this question when I made reservations and now we are packing and hoping not to have to pack a sport coat. We're going to La Chronique, Europea and La Colombe. My husband wants to dress appropriately, but bringing a jacket means he needs a dress coat too and that seems like a bit much for a long weekend if it's not necessary.

Your thoughts? Thanks.

Montreal is a very informal city. I don't think he'd need a jacket at those places.

Jacket is not necessary, but I would make sure the rest of the outfit is reasonably natty, or you will feel very out of place. My husband has easily gotten away with a nice shirt or sweater with nice dress slacks and shoes.

i'd dress smartly, and even a bit more @ La Chronique & Europea, they are both top of the class restaurants in Town; nice pants, nice shirt, jacket, nice shoes ... hey it's a celebration!

for La colombe, a bit more laid-back is ok, jean, shirt, sneakers...

He could definitly do with a nice sweater on top of his shirt instead of a jacket and still look dressed for these restaurants.
