Former Il Forno site - Milford, CT - BBQ, LLC?

FYI - Was at the light next to the former Il Forno yesterday. Two women were outside painting the patio (freshening up) with a man just standing there overseeing their work (he he). Liquor License Permit sign is up. Says new owner is BBQ, LLC. SO. . . I wonder if original owners or perhaps friends/family of original owners are going to reinvent the original BBQ Rest (or Bar BQ or Bar-B-Q) at the same location? I'll keep you posted if I see any more activity. Perhaps Twin Lobster Special will be back inside the more modernized digs? Now if only the red neon light landmark comes back. . .

Jen Jen, The BarBQ that operated at this site for many years was NOT BBQ as you think, but a roadhouse that had good seafood, very good lobsters, nice steaks, burgers and chops and wonderful prime rib

Where is Big Daddy's? On The Dock/Danny's end of Ferry Boulevard or down the road a bit?

Thanks bagelman- I never made it to the old BBQ place that was there.

harrie- Big Daddy's is going to be in the round building by Uberti's- where you'd turn to go to Outriggers. The progress is so slow that at one point we figured they had run out of money or something and weren't proceeding, but they've been doing work the last couple of weeks again. The sign isn't up anymore, though so.... ?

Thanks, JenJen. I'll have to swing over that way soon and see what's up. The last good BBQ I recall in the area (and I'm no expert on the subject) was the place over by Town Fair, about 20 years ago. (Stick to Your Ribs, maybe?)

I work in Milford, so will periodically check on whether the former Il Forno is going to be Bar-B-Q, barbecue/BBQ, or something else entirely.

            1. re: harrie

That was Texas Bar-B-Q- they closed shortly after we moved to the area about 17 years ago :(

The place in Stratford was Texas BBQ. I would love to find out if the place in Milford is the same ast the old BBQ.

        2. Update: Liquor Permit sign is down. Door was open on the weekend, so they must be working inside. No sign up yet.

          1. Another Update: Bar BQ Sign is up. Says BarBQ, Chicken, Seafood, Ribs. Sounds almost like the original fare. Doesn't look like doors are open just yet.
It's a new sign, not the original.

            1. I just had to share this. This obviously outdated website has a picture of the old Bar -B-Q in Milford. The Il Forno people gutted it since then but outside is basically the same minus the sign and with a fresh coat of paint.

              1. Yes indeed - this place is under new/old management - the son of the original owners - from way back when has reopened the place - the food is reasonably priced - and delicious - basic steak, chops, ribs, chicken place - like the good old days - they also have some really nice specials - had the lobster risotto a few nights ago as well as the stuffed pork tenderloin - stuffed with ricotta - spinach-mortadella and golden raisens - tasted the beet and goat cheese lobster(YUMMY) and the fried mozz - mozz wrapped in proscuitto then deep fried served with a light tomatoe sauce was fantastic - a friend of mine had the filet mignon that she cut with a butter knife and oh yeah I had the pork ribs another night as well - they fell off the bone - all in all this is a nice place for a casual dinner - as well as full family - nice childrens' menu too. Lissa behind the bar is fantastic and makes a great expresso martini to boot! I wouldn't have a problem dining alone there either as everyone was very personable. Give them some time to iron out a few kinks as all new places do but overall they are very concerned with your experience and sincerely want to hear the good and the not so good(if there is any) so that they can make corrections... So, looking for a reasonably priced dinner - nice portions - good atmosphere - check it out!

It is so wonderful to see the old Bar B Q open once again. I did like Il Forno very much but it is nice that they have gone back to great road house food. I had the twin lobsters and they couldnt be better - steamed to perfection my partner had a steak that was tender and juicy. The service was very good - although our server did not tell us of the specials. They need to work out some kinks and get things rolling along. No more table cloths but nice booths are back in and wooden tables and chairs. Finally a place that you know you can get a good lobster at a good price. I find that there are just too many Italian restaurants in this area nad we need to support the Bar B Q restaurant for good American food, comfortable casual atmosphere and good service.

Cammy - My thoughts exactly about the overrun of Italian restaurants. Here was my previous review from when I went after the Bar-B-Q reopened. Funny, we weren't told the specials either--so frustrating.
