<<crafting a customized special feature that embeds your brand with our award-winning editorial content.>>

What the heck does this mean? In plain language.

Is Chow creating editorial content that uses advertiser brands? Jacquilynne???

Advertising is always called out on the site -- we have very specific places where ads can live, which include the third column, the banner at the top of the page, and a few other placements, like in preroll for video and amidst our photo galleries.

Crafting a customized special feature that embeds a brand? I suppose that means something like a microsite, where our existing content is pulled in to support advertising. But we don't create content for advertising, and we never, ever are paid to recommend a product, or even to mention it fleetingly.

Advertising is what supports this site, so we're very happy and grateful for our advertisers. But we do keep the line carefully drawn between editorial and advertising. I don't think any of us would want to work in an environment that handled it differently.

Don't confuse Chow and Chowhound. We know from a survey a few months ago (http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/603071) that Chowhounds are considerably older on average than is stated above. The median age in that (admittedly unscientific) survey was 44.

Very interesting.... I can definitely see that Chow is much more likely to appeal to the Yelp/Twitter/Facebook-attention-span crowd, whereas Chowhound appeals to us old fogies. (FYI, this old fogey is 35).

Bear in mind that there was a dedicated and passionate Chowhound base firmly in place (including me) well before the 2006 corporate takeover, and a lot of the old stalwarts are still here. Indeed, Chowhound was born in a different age. Thankfully the essence of the site has remained the same, despite several pandering attempts to youthify the site by adding silly avatars and popularity contests ("who's reading me"), etc. Mercifully, these have been kept to a minimum in the new iteration.

Ah, the good old days....

We were just simply Chowhounds.
