Cronses?

I know they exisit. I have seen them in France. They are little crunchy root vegtable/tuberish things. They are in season now. I was AMAZED that a search on Chowhound came up empty with zero results found. Further investigation led to almost no info online and no pictures. They are listed on random menus:

This just makes me curious. Does anyone know anything about Cronses? Is there another name that they are better known by?

Occasionally you'll see them at WFM, especially if it happens to be a brand new location. New stores always aim big before tailoring their inventory to match the clientele. But they're ungodly expensive.

We grew crosnes in the greenhouse at summer winter when i worked there. theres a profile about them on the chow ingredients section:

They are called crosnes in French (both s's are silent, hence pronoucned "krone"). My husband wrote an article about our local Paris market and the "Weird Vegetable Lady" with her WV, including crosnes :
