pecans OR fig jam OR red pepper jelly OR caramelized onions? Maybe some of these need to go on after you broil or else under the pears.

Toasted bread, carmelized onion conserve or chutney, then the pears, top with blue cheese. I'd run it under a flame just to melt the cheese a bit. Or a bit of beef cooked med rare, topped with the above.

if you can get to a middle eastern market, za'atar has sumac in it and it's great! otherwise maybe some red onion? cashews? yesterday on PBS Jacques P did lavash with horseradich sour cream, maiche and smoked salmon. Maybe you make a spread of the bleu cheese or do boursin and do a pretty layer of maiche, then pear and nuts?

thanks everyone, here is what I did. I had a pillsbury pizza crust (the Popn fresh type) in the fridge. Cut it in half and did a free form thing to stretch it out. thin layer of honey and olive oil onto a hot pizza stone (500 degree oven). 5 mins and it was crusty. took it out, added copious thinly sliced pears and blue cheese ( original pears were rotten inside, from WF no less, had to make last minute dash to grocery) popped under broiler till cheese melted, Remove. sprinkled with prebaked proscuitto , nice and crunchy! drizzle all with honey. I could not believe the reaction... everyone was raving. I have NEVER had that reaction from anything I have served at a pot luck. actually fighting over the last peices! so thanks again for all the inspiration.
