      <content>I was in NYC this week from DC and had a great time at the Gramercy Tavern and a superb meal at Scarpetta.  See the above link posted by davr73 for details.</content>

      <content>I think you should focus on things you can't find in LA.

Go to Anyway Cafe at 2nd and 2nd.  Modern Russian.  Only about seven tables.  Anything from jeans to a tux is ok here.  Very funky, very Manhattan.  You will not find anything like this where you are.  Things start picking up there about 9pm.  Smoked trout, marinated beets with walnuts, osetra filet, peasant style beef.
