Is there any place to buy organic chicken besides Honest Weight Food Co-op? Any place where I can buy a whole, organic, roasted chicken? Price Chopper doesn't carry organic chickens. I haven't checked Hannaford or the Green Grocer yet.

Roma Foods is working on smoked duck and will call me back. They did have frozen duck breast (from Canada). Any Brianna Chipotle Cheddar dressing fans? Roma (Latham) carries it. Haven't been able to find it anywhere else. Drew's is at Hannaford.

Discovered Bilinski's sausage (made in Cohoes). The apple chardonnay is good. Any other locally made products like this I should not miss?

Thanks.

I've bought tea-smoked duck at the Asian Market on Colvin Ave., but I don't know if they have them all the time. They always have fresh chickens, though, including blue ones. There's now a fresh poultry market on Broadway in Schenectady, killed to order; haven't been there yet, but they're supposed to carry chickens, ducks, and turkeys.
Thanks, scunge. Lakeside carried Oscar's products (before the fire) but I never saw smoked duck at Lakeside.

Roma ordered smoked duck for me and it's in. I think they source it from Canada.

The smoked duck is from Hudson Valley Foie Gras. BTW "Foie Gras, A Passion" by Ginor is an excellent book about HVFG and makes a good gift.

The uncooked duck breast was from Canada.

Roma also had rabbit and rabbit sausage.

The Troy Farmers Market does carry local organic meat. It is only on Saturdays though. If you have never been, it is worth the trip. http://www.troymarket.org/

Cardonna's in Albany might carry organic meat. I know they at least carry all natural.

The Hannaford in Latham is probably the best stocked chain grocery store in the area. That one would probably be the best bet.

I don't know what its organic certification is, but Roma's in Latham carries excellent natural beef, veal, lamb, and pork. Honest Weight carries organic frozen meat and poultry, as does the Greengrocer. Several farms sell their own meat, organically-raised or not, at the Saratoga Farmers Market, year-round.

Thanks everyone. Still need to get to the Troy and Saratoga Markets. Interested to see if Quattro is there. Been to
Honest Weight, Greengrocer (didn't remember seeing much poultry but will check it out again), EATS. Called Hannaford in Latham and they have their own brand, Nature's Way. Sounded liked "natural," not "organic" but will check it out next time I'm in Latham. Have not been able to find roasted, organic chicken anywhere. Here's to antiobiotics . . . and knowing where your food comes from.
