All -

Looking for breakfast with 8 people (4 kids) on a Friday in midtown. Has to be close to 54th and 5th or 6th.

Nothing fancy or eclectic, just good food - decent atmosphere.

Any ideas?

THANKS

My favorite breakfast place in the area is Certe: great food (breakfast menu as well as home-baked goodies), cozy spot, and exceedingly friendly. Take-out in the front, dining room and catering prep in the back. Your kids will enjoy it.

What about Norma's in The Parker Meridien? There are lots of brunch staples (pancakes, waffles, eggs benedict) and also more interesting breakfast items (the wazaa is absolutely amazing and I bet kids would LOVE it)

All good ideas - I looked at Norma's - looks like a lot of $$...I mean I know what NYC costs, but it looks like more than average, am I correct?

Personally, I would definitely describe Norma's as "fancy" AND "eclectic." The prices are steep and you can find much better deals out there. That's not to say that I don't enjoy Norma's, but it's like a once/year treat for me.

Love Norma's but agree it is pricey...Rue 57 is on 57th and 6th, http://www.rue57.com and is good.
Also, there are a bunch of decent diners around, AstroDiner on 55th and 6th andPark Central on 55th and 7th are good. Mangia is on 57th btwn 5th and 6th...great breakfast sandwiches and pastries, coffeee/juice where you can buy at the counter and sit down.
