I am a big fan of Tacos Por Favor in Santa Monica on Olympic. I also like Sanchez Meat Market in Mar Vista on Inglewood Blvd, just south of Culver.

Perhaps the best tacos you will find are in the many taco trucks that are in LA. I find an endless assortment of them along 3rd Street, Western Ave., and that general area on any given night. There is a fleet of them, all independently owned and muy autentico.

Also love Tacos Por Favor for the westside. There must be some great ones on the eastside as well, just don't know them.

You may have opened a Pandora's Box yet again. Although the taco truck suggestion is right on, here in the west SFV my go-to place is El Tapatio on the southwest corner of Victory and Fallbrook. Excellent Pastor.

are they looking for tacos specifically? or tortas? or clayudas? or hurraches? or ceviche? Burritos? fish/shrimp tacos vs. other types?

Even the "hole in the wall" places tend to specialize in something and that will help the 'hounds direct you.

I should also point out that there is Independently Owned Mexican Restaurant Nirvana all along York Blvd. east of the Pasadena Freeway. There has to be a half dozen or more little Mexican places which serve some very good tacos and other Mexican specialties. You may want to just park the car and start taco tasting.
