Restaurant on Fairfax with good beer selection?

I know that sometime in the last year I read a review for a newish restaurant on north Fairfax that mentioned a good beer selection and good food - I can't remember if it was Jonathan Gold, the LA Times, this list or ?? I just remember that it was casual, not fine dining, but highly recommended.

I know that's not much to go on, but DH and I have an appointment in that part of town tomorrow which will keep us busy until 5ish. Rather than fight the traffic back to Pasadena at that hour, we thought an early dinner might keep us busy for awhile. Thanks for any help.

You are thinking of Golden State. Good burger, sweet potato fries, cucumber salad, and Scoop gelato too. Right across the street from Canters.

Since you'll be there tomorrow night, on Friday and Saturdays, they also serve a great version of fish and chips.

how'd you like it?
we have been known to plan the day to get over there and
never disappointed. although only recently returned to carnivorousness i don't know a better burger. what are (better burgers)?

Still on our list of "to do" restaurants. We have been to Animal across the street twice (and which we love) and each time we have eyed GS with the intention of getting there. Too many restaurants and too much traffic (and too little time and money)... ;-D>

Sorry to say, we still haven't gotten there. Our business in that part of town had to do with taking DH's aging parents to a doctor - nothing went quite as planned, we didn't finish everything we needed to do until almost 7:00, and by then we had to get food for the in-laws who hadn't gotten out that day. We'll try again soon.
