Steak Tartare?

Big Boss is coming in from NYC and I'm looking to impress with SF's finest steak tartare. She used to love the stuff at Jeanty at Jack's, before they closed.

Any recommendations? Thanks!!!

Epic Roasthouse on the Embarcadero does a beef tartare that's quite tasty.

I like the appetizer portion at Cafe Claude. Prepared tableside, bien sur.

Have had Bix and Chez Papa Resto. Both excellent. I've only had it at Bix on Friday lunch. Do they serve it all the time?

Yes, Bix has it all the time. It is better requested prepared tableside. When they are very busy, sometimes it will come out already prepared.

Last year, I had tartare in England, France, Spain, and Switzerland. I still like Bix's version best.

Le Central at 453 Bush serves it as both appetizer and an entree. I've eaten it there twice, and have been perfectly satisfied.

and, if that doesn't satisfy, you might want to try

Chez Papa Resto does a good one. Not amazing, but will definitely satisfy your cravings.

Or you could drive to Bistro Jeanty in Napa.

I second this... very, very good. Piment d'esplette is a fine addition.
