truffles
anyone know of any restautants that have amazing truffle dishes. Wife is a huge truffle fanatic, and our anniversary is approaching. And please dont recommend the restaurant in woodside. Lots of bad things to say about that place.

don, I know both EMP and Daniel have truffles on their current menus. In terms of dish creativity, I don't recall ever seeing a truffle dish that has been anything more than elegant simplicity ... usually the point is to highlight the truffle, right?
Anyway, we just had an outstanding risotto and pasta with Alba truffles at Daniel -- highly recommend that place.
In terms of woodside, could you tell me more about your experience please? We have a res there for Tuesday for their truffle menu, but I'm already on the fence about it since it seems a bit odd ... your experiences would greatly help.

In terms of the woodside location. We dined there on a thursday, not on their tuesday special night. We ordered a truffle dinner, knowing that we will be paying full boat, which we would have done with pleasure. the truffle dishes were expensive, which would have fine and understandable, but the amount of truffles shaved on the dishes were extremely parsimonious.
We also ordered a couple of expensive bottles of wine, that were pretty good. My biggest problem was when i asked for some ice water. I was asked if I wanted flat, or sparkling. I said tap water. I was informed that was not a choice. I thought they were kidding. I asked again. the manager came over and said they have a policy of only serving bottled water. I'm sorry but found this to be extremely cheesy. . I have had the pleasure of eating in new yorks finest restaurants (jean george, daniel, Per se, Le Bernadin, etc...) and I can say I never experienced anything like that before.
Now granted this might sound petty, but for me it was enough to swear off the place.
I hope your experience will be better than mine.
