Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in Manhattan

Best sushi near W. 44th St.

We're staying on W. 44th St. between 5th and 6th and want to take our sushi-loving dad out for for a late lunch on Saturday and can't stray too far from our hotel. Any recommendations would be hugely appreciated.

    1. Check out Sushi of Gari 46: http://www.menupages.com/restaurants/sushi-of-gari-46/

        1. IMHO, Shimizu on W. 51st between 8th and 9th is the best in the neighborhood. Gari is also a good recommendation, and is closer to your hotel, but can get very expensive very quickly. Good luck!

            1. Thank you both.

if it's not too late, i really really recommend Sushi Zen, which is right on the block where you are staying. they do some really unusual preparations and have a goodly number of seasonal dishes -- and a lovely setting. i love shimizu, but it's a little stark and cold for me in terms of atmosphere. one caveat is that Sushi Zen has only a smidgen of its menu online....maybe a call would reveal more

No, it's not too late. Thank you so much. Sounds perfect.

Looking forward to trying Sushi Zen. Thanks for the rec!

                        2. We like Kodama Sushi at 301 West 45th Street. A favorite pre-theater treat, not very fancy, but lots of different rolls and non fish choices too. Extra bonus is the Red Mango on 8th between 45th and 46th for a refreshing dessert

                            1. Just to let you know - we ended up at Sushi Zen and it was exactly what we needed. Thank you!

Helpful thread - have the same exact question for tonight (midtown sushi place) -

Both Gari 46 and Sushi Zen look/sound great. Will decide on one of them and try to report back.

                                  • Yasuda! It's only a few blocks away. Just don't sit at Yasuda's station.
