Hi everyone!

I've posted here before and everyone is so helpful so I'm hoping you'll be able to help me once again!

I was in London a year ago and during a wine tasting event I sampled some of this amazing red wine - it was called "Gonzalez Byass Solera 1847." I've checked out the LCBO website and they do not have this wine (they had a few bottles last year but couldn't find it and said they were probably broken by now or else just stashed away somewhere that they wouldn't be able to locate them for me).

I'm wondering where I can find this wine in Toronto (or nearby), or perhaps even in Florida (I have a friend there who I'd like to send a bottle to).

I'm also a bit confused because there are so many variations of wines made by Gonzalez Byass and I think this would be the entire name of the wine but if someone happens to know which I'm talking about but this isn't the correct or full name, please let me know! (If it helps, this wine was NOT a creamy wine, but well, clear but a deep caramel colour and it had a caramel taste/aftertaste as well).

Thanks in advance for all your help :)

The important thing to look for is solera 1847. That is when the tier of sherry blends was started, and there is a tiny bit of 1847 in the current offering.
Try Googling the full title and you should find a source. I think it is more deep amber than red, but I could be off base.

What you are looking for is an "Oloroso" style sherry. It has a dark brown colour and walnutty flavour. The LCBO has one by Lustau, which is a very good house. I shop at the Summerhill LCBO and they generally have a good selection of sherry.
I also find them amazing, and they're cheap. Lastly sherry is a fortified wine made from white grapes, not a red wine.
Good luck.

This is 'partially' correct - it doesn't take into account that there are both dry and sweet versions of Oloroso.
The G-B Solera 1847 is an OLOROSO DULCE ( a sweet style, also known as a Cream Sherry - but that doesn't mean it has a creamy colour/texture - it's the name of a style). The only Lustau Oloroso I'm aware of right now is a dry style.
The wine you're seeking was last released in Ontario in September 2007 - which suggests that it's no longer carried.
The Agent is Woodman Wines & Spirits

But they don't really do much in Private Imports - and they're not showing any on their product listing (which is almost a year out-of-date anyway).
