Sushi and Thai for birthday Dinner
If you don't mind a clubby scene, and twentysomethings galore getting hammered, then Butterfly is the place for you. Lots of hipster mayo maki rolls, but the fish itself, that we've had anyway was quite decent if you're into nigiri or sashimi. The byo factor, is a bonus, IMO.
I agree with Gordeaux's recommendation of Butterfly. We usually try to go a little on the early side to avoid the loudness & club-type scene. They do take reservations, which is helpful. Note that Butterfly has added a 2nd location on Chicago Avenue. It's the original location on Grand you want.
Also, a bit farther north is Asian Avenue, 1624 W Belmont Ave. Best of both worlds. I love sushi; my husband prefers Thai, so we both left there happy!
