It is in the space recently occupied by Lapp's Kitchen. I have not visited this place yet. Prior to Lapp's, it was the Corner Market.

I went for lunch today, piggybacking on a lunchtime appointment I had at 10th and Market. My review is kind of an "eh"--but it should also be noted that despite many attempts, I have never really enjoyed any Caribbean food I've ever had in Wilmington or elsewhere. I just find it ridiculously heavy and either way over- or under-spiced, in every case.

At Paradise Palms, I had the jerk chicken lunch special, which comes with two sides--I chose rice and peas and also cabbage, which was my second choice after they told me they were sold out of collard greens (this was at about 1 PM). The chicken was reasonably moist and bracingly spicy. The cabbage, made with carrots and bell peppers, was not too bland but was quite mushy--not too surprising, since all of the food was sitting in steam tables. The low point of the meal was the rice and peas--the problem was not the usual over-cooked rice or blandness, but for some reason, someone had a bizarrely heavy hand with the cinnamon on this dish. It was not pleasant.

Paradise Palms does sit-down service (with tablecloths!) and also take-out. When I was there, the restaurant was about 1/3 full and there were one or two people waiting for take-out throughout. They have some kinks to work out on the service--for whatever reason, all of the side dishes were sitting out buffet-style in the dining room, and the staff had to run out there and spoon items out onto plates and containers that they'd then hand to dining room and take-out customers. But I didn't wait too long for my food, and the cashier was friendly.

Because this restaurant didn't make me think any better of Caribbean food, I won't be back. I remain hopeful that someday, some place will come through with a really delicious Caribbean meal. But I'm still waiting.

The woman who cooked for Genelle's has opened a new place on Rt 9 in old New Castle. Island Spice, right next to Ice Cream Corral. The cook up rice is actually a highlight! So tasty and it's free with any platter. Great Jerk chicken and Escovitch(sp) fish stew. Also quite tasty salmon quiche with spinach. I've yet to be disappointed with my meals here, and I've been about 6-8 times now! She has more sides and soups on Saturdays than during the week. Give it a try!! Better than D&H, my previous go to.
