Birthday dinner in Raleigh

I'm looking for a good place to have a birthday dinner with a couple friends next Friday. I'm a student at NC State, so somewhere fairly cheap (~$10) and near the university would be ideal. I was thinking about Flying Biscuit in Cameron Village, but I'd like to try something new. Any suggestions? This may go without saying, but somewhere with its own unique food is what I'm looking for, not dishes that I can find at any Olive Garden.

  1. Porter's may be a little above your price point but the food is good, it is right across the street from campus and is not a chain. I would recommend it above the Flying Biscuit any day.

    1. Hey! I was also going to recommend Porters, but also! Oakwood Cafe. I have recommended it many times on here, but a quick search showed that others have, too!
It is fun, delicious, and inexpensive. You and your friends will have a great time!!

You and your dining companions will love The Oakwood Cafe in downtown Raleigh. They only serve dinner on Friday & Saturday nights... lunch Monday - Friday.

Three of us did the Oakwood and enjoyed it very much. All had different things and all liked our choices. Thanks for the tip.

      1. Is downtown Raleigh off limits? I mean it's really not far from the University at all. If downtown is not off limits, maybe you'd like to check out Busy Bee Cafe? Or Sono for sushi. On Glenwood, the Hayes Barton Cafe and Dessertery looks fun.
