Greetings Boston Hounds -- I am traveling back to Boston, my city of birth, on Friday and driving from Logan Airport up to Hanover via 93/91. Any tips for a quick stop for lunch on the way. Preferably within 30-45 minutes of Logan, as we'll be getting in there a little after 11 and then picking up the car.

Open to anything, could be sit-down as long as it's not too fancy/time-consuming.

Thanks for the suggestions . . .

Your best bet may be to hit Santarpio's, for pizza, or Angela's Cafe, for great Mexican, in East Boston before heading out of town. I can't think of other great options along I-93 as you head out of town.

Once you reach Hanover, you might consider the 20-minute drive to Quechee, VT, for a great lunch or dinner at Simon Pearce.

You could also zip over to Kelly's on Revere Beach or closer to 93, the one in Medford. The scallop roll I had there a couple months ago was excellent. Plus there's a Regina Pizzeria in that complex that people like too if you don't want to deal with the north end. If you do, I'm sure people would suggest Neptune Oyster, a pain with the car tho.

You won't buy much time by looking for something off I-93. Tough to beat Eastie prices or quality, like at Angela's, a gem.

I was very pleasantly surprised by Eastie Italian restaurant Rino's Place, which does pretty standard Italian-American red-sauce fare, but also some lovely, more authentic Italian specials every day, like a stunning osso bucco. All pastas made in-house, too, unusual for the modest prices. Better than most North End red-sauce joints.

Cotton in Manchester has been very good the couple of times that I've gone for diner. I believe they serve lunch, but I'm not sure how far it is from 93.

Manchester has some great options but is more like an hour from Logan. If you can swing that, you have lots of great options just off Rt 93: Cotton is fantastic, Richards Bistro is excellent, lots of great ethnic dining (several excellent Mexican), great diner food at The Red Arrow, etc. Check the board for Manchester NH, get lots of great ideas.

My husband is from Hanover, so we do this route a lot. The drive has become more enjoyable since we discovered Hermanos in Concord. It is a perfect half way point and their food is surprisingly delicious for this non-foodie town. I crave the garlic beef nachos on a weekly basis. So worth it.

PS when you get to Hanover go to Simon Pierce for dinner.

Concord is only 10 min north of Manchester and just off Rt. 93.

Tavern at the End of the World is a little bar in Charlestown right in Sullivan Square, just off 93. I have only been once, but I enjoyed it and I think it would be a nice spot for lunch.

You can also easily go to the places in East Somerville on Broadway. I think there's a thread about that here. And Union Square is just a few minutes further, if you prefer the idea of Peruvian chicken, Korean food, or a coffee house to the other suggestions.

if you are willing to take route 3 north (instead of 93), which is not much further distance/time wise and reconnects with 93 north of manchester, there are lots of options just off 3 between burlington and lowell which would be about 45 min from logan. for example, sichuan gourmet, in billerica, an excellent chinese restaurant, pho 88 in lowell, an excellent viet namese/pho restaurant, uppupi bavan in lowell, wonderful south indian dosa.
