I have to take my daughter to a swim meet at the Western Regional YMCA in a couple weeks. I am looking for someplace we can stop in the evening on the way home to Middletown and catch a quick bite. I think we are swimming in Brookfield but it might be Danbury. Any cuisine and price range. Pretty much open to anything around there or on the way back.
There's a pretty good Mexican place on Rt. 7 in Brookfield- we love it! I think it's called Panchos and Gringos and there's this really big (and kinda creepy) horse in the entry area. Maggie McFly's smacks of pre-prepared, unimaginative pub-style food that masquerades as an inferior Cheesecake Factory (with unfriendly service to boot!). Just like TGIF's or something. Skip it, unless the kids are nacho, hamburger and nugget lovers. My teenage daughter hates the food there (overstuffed sandwiches, salads that must have like 4,000 calories each...) If you drive up and down Rt. 7, you'll see several restaurant choices (it's been a couple of years since I've lived near there). CH's might kill me here, but if you have time (and your kids are young) take them for ice-cream (no shopping) at Stew Leonards, but don't tell anyone I sent you, b/c I slammed the store in another CH thread! Good luck at your meet!
Maggie McFly's is OK. Kind of like the Cheesecake Factory (in menu & price). Down the road (in Danbury) you'd have JK's Texas Hot Weiners (my personal favorite of the area - think diner food but 10x's better). There's a hibachi place in Brookfield (Osaka) which is surprisingly good on price & family friendly as well as Rocco's Italian (pizza / pasta place) - both on Federal Road (north).
If you're up for road food, Denmo's in Southbury (off exit 15 of 84 I think) has great fried seafood, hot dogs, etc.
Maggie McFlys is a local chain (3 locations i think) that is very close to the Y with a large variety and very teen friendly. Further west on Federal Road is Bluu which is a bit funkier with a smaller but more interesting menu (really good sushi) and a hip (for Danbury) vibe.
