Quay is one of Sydney's top restaurants rated as much for the view as the food. But one of the problems is that it is located in the Overseas Passenger Terminal, the place all the big cruise ships dock: a 15 storey liner the size of two city blocks tends to obscure the Opera House...!

So one tip is to check if any ships will be in port if you are going to Quay, a good resource is here: http://shipschedule.sydneyports.com.au/marineoperations/movements.asp

Scroll to the "Sydney Harbour" section and you can see which ship is in port, and when they arrive and depart. The one to look for is "Overseas PT (SCPT)". A lot of ships come in for the day and depart before sunset so leave the port at 6:00pm and thus give you the view back. But some boats have stayed for a number of days.

Other restaurants affected are: Wildfire; Ocean Room and Cruise.
