dreaming of apple dumplings - Philly

  • 2

Back from a business trip to PHL (by the way, you all have a GREAT food town) and am still pondering those fabulous apple dumplings that I had at the Reading Terminal market. Was it called the Dutch Eating Place? I even brought a pan home. Has anyone ever come across their recipe? It's not something we see here often in the Midwest, and they are truly fabulous. Thanks.

I"m not sure if they have a glaze on them, but we make them homemade, not really a recipe, but basic pie dough, rolled out. Granny smith apples, peeled, cored, and cut into a little smaller than 1/4's. Pile a few pieces on, put in some butter, maybe 2 tblspns, sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar, Bring up side of dough and seal. Make until golden. We take them out of the oven and right into a bowl. Pour milk over top of them and sprinkle with sugar. MMMmmmmm.....
