from my search, seems like this might not be possible, but thought i'd give it a try. we're 2 foodies visiting from san diego for the u2 concert at the rose bowl on sunday.... we're going to do the park n ride from old town pasadena, so I'm looking for a great drinking/early dinner establishment (around 4pm). any suggestions?

You should consider Bar Celona. The food (tapas) is really quite good, as is the sangria. They're open all day, too, so you can just kind of wander in at any time, which is nice.

I didn't check their hours; I just assumed Vertical wasn't open all day, or at least not open in late afternoon, but if it is, then I would wholeheartedly second the recommendation. It can get pricey depending on what you order for wine, though.

the good news in all this Vertical discussion is that David Haskell, formerly of Bin8945 in Weho, is now running the wine program at Vertical, and his knowledge and selection will be top-notch, so at least the value will be there, and your economic and taste dictates will determine how much to spend.
Weho's loss is Pasadena's gain.
See you soon on North Raymond Avenue!
