I thought this interview was pretty interesting: http://www.avclub.com/articles/alton-...

Interesting indeed. But how can he host a show about food when he restricts his diet so drastically? I sympathize with his goal of maintaining his weight loss, but no ice cream ever???

I thought that was really sad, considering when I saw him do a live cooking show in Nashville a couple of years ago, making liquid nitrogen was one of his show elements. He seemed to really enjoy making it -- it would be sad if he couldn't eat it!

Ugh, my worst fears about his recent weight loss appear to be true.

He says: "Fruit smoothies, canned sardines, and almonds make up about 90 percent of my intake."

I just hate to see someone I like do something so stupid. Not to play armchair psychologist, but he's obviously working through some serious issues by jumping into the OTHER deep end of food.

When people do stupid diets like this, they fall HARD when they fall off that pony. What's he going to do? Spit all the food out as he develops recipes from now on?

Alton, please for us: Just eat one hot dog a day when you're in Chicago, and balance it with healthy stuff.

his weight loss has gone overboard. he is too skinny, and he looks unwell!!!
(the photo in the article looks fine, but on that 10th anniversary show, he looked horrible).

Very interesting read. But it's not The Onion, unless I'm missing something?

The AV Club is a section in the Onion (essentially the variety section).

Ahhh, thanks. So THOSE stories are real vs. the ones you read on The Onion. :-)
