Tips for Dining, Eating and Food Shopping in the New England

Need flexible plans for B-day lunch/dinner from Portsmouth to Portland

will be staying in Wells next weekend and it's my birthday Saturday. can't make plans or reservations in advance as it depends on what is happening with the ALCS (baseball). If there is a game 6 it will be on Saturday @ 4pm - if that's the case I'd like a nice lunch locally and then back home to watch baseball.
However, if the NLCS is already over this game will move to the night time slot so an 8pm start. Therefore lunch could be Portland or Portsmouth (or still local for that matter). Or a local early dinner @5.
Third scenario is that ALCS doesn't require a Game 6 and then my day is wide open :)

Looking for a casual setting all the way around and cuisine or price is not a concern so says my husband.

Looking for any/all ideas for my day.

Thanks!

  1. A few thoughts:
Portsmouth dinner- The Green Monkey. Very warm waitstaff, excellent mediterranean, french, asian, latin influences. better food than Pesce Blue and Braza.

Portland brunch : 555Congress St. very handsome space; v good food. Local 188 exc brunch, lunch, dinner. Duck Fat has amazing french fries w/ garlic aioli, tomato fennel bisque, and delicious but overpriced french sandwiches,.but it is a v small place.
Portland dinner= Bresca ; intimate (tiny) ,wonderful lovingly prepared homemade foods.
I suggest you go to the website of each and see their menus. Make reservations; you can always call and cancel.

I LOVE brunch .. good call. Might just hold that for Sunday and head to Portland!

    2. If the timing is for lunch near Wells, try MC Perkins Cove in Ogunquit. Beautful Views, good food, nice service. Why travel to Portsmouth if you are in Wells?

      1. if you like Japanese, Yosaku in Portland is an excellent choice, with both table and bar seating. outstanding sashimi, sushi, & rolls. Very high quality fish.
