<content>So now that there's a Western Canada board, the Canada board now covers only the Atlantic Provinces, and the territories. Here's a humble suggestion. Why not include the territories in Western Canada and rename the Canada board Atlantic Provinces or Atlantic Canada. It would make better geographical sense.

And if you don't choose to do that could you at least update the tagline of the Canada board which is still "Tips for Dining, Eating and Food Shopping in Canada (oustide of Ontario and Quebec)"

Thank you for your consideration,

<content>Here is how Canada might be partitioned for purposes of this board:

Newfoundland/Labrador; Maritimes (PEI, NB, NS); Quebec; Ontario; Prairies; BC/Alberta, and The Territories (NWT, Yukon and Nunavit.)

http://canada.gc.ca/othergov-autregouv/prov-eng.html

Oh, wait a minute.

A good bit of Alberta is Prairie; a deal of Quebec could be considered Maritime (and vice-versa) and that former province is claiming parts of Labrador. For sure there is a serious divide between Toronto and the rest of Ontario - I don't know if the same could be said of Montreal and the rest of Quebec or not.

You may also wish to split Buffalo and Toronto into a separate unit and, while you're doing that, do the same for Windsor/Detroit - both in spite of new travel restrictions - and look into a few other frontier districts as well.

This winter will be long and I'm sure that all this will be sorted by spring.

<content>Should the boards be political or geographical? In Canada they are political. That has certain advantages in terms of the law and being immediately understandable.

In an ideal world I would like to create my own geographical boards. For example, 40 land miles from my postal code. Any post that is (somehow) hooked to a place that satisfies that criteria would appear in my personal geo board. Land distances are available from a google server.

<content>I'd like to have a "Canada" board for pan-Canadian food issues: food recalls and scandals, the good and bad about major Canadian chains and brands etc. We've tried to discuss "President's Choice" brands, but they get shifted to general boards where they are meaningless to all the US posters outside Buffalo and some other border cities that get a lot of Canadian products. </content>

<content>That is one of my issues, too. I have had posts which are specific to Ontario moved to other boards. This turns into 'noise' for all those who are Nontatrians.</content>

<content>Those boards cover a lot of territory, and they're meant to. It's not necessary for everything on them to be of interest to the whole world. It's fine for Canadian posters to discuss Canadian chains on the Chains board, for British posters to discuss British critics on the Food Media Board, for Australian posters to discuss Australian tipping etiquette on the Not About Food board, and for many other similar permutations. The people who aren't interested can simply move on to the next topic. No one should feel like their posts are noise just because they aren't global or American.

<content>But they are noise if you have to open them to find out they are only relevant to one geographical area. An example might be a Toronto-Rogers TV program showcasing something local. To have it moved from Ontario to media-news may make sense to you. It didn't to me.

It also leads to the premature death of threads. The target audience is missing. I can dig up a few examples if you wish.

(Edit: That should have read Nontarians above. Spell-checkers don't seem to differentiate between portmanteau words and spelling mistakes.)</content>

<content>Often when we move things, we put the name of the board we've moved them from in the title, so it should usually be pretty apparent what region it comes from.

We are aware that the whole audience doesn't move with a post when it's relocated, but our primary goal is keeping the local boards focused on where to find local chow. We recognize that discussions of things like food media can be hurt in the process, but they're ancillary to our main purpose.

If there is a discussion on a topical board that's strongly of interest to a specific local audience, it is fine to leave a heads up post on the local board with a link to the topical board. We do try to do that, as well, when we move posts with a local angle to a topical board. </content>

<content>As Jacquilynnne mentioned, it is fine to leave a heads up post on the local board with a link to the topical board. We do try to do that, as well, when we move posts with a local angle to a topical board. However, we don't always do it, and if there's a discussion you started or are following that was moved without a pointer, you are always welcome to put your own pointer on the board.</content>
