Cheesesteak Alert in Center City - 17th and JFK

Sooo...A friend of ours is in town from Ohio for the weekend, and wanted to see the video wall at the Comcast building. Since I work in the area, I gave them instructions on taking the train into Center City and met them for lunch at the Market at Comcast Center. They wanted cheesesteaks (yawn), but I tried to steer them away from the dreadful place that was there, only to learn that the old bad place is gone, replaced by a new joint called Mike's Steaks. They were adamant, so I left them to wait in the line and went to grab Udon soup from the sushi place, thinking they'd be in line for 15 minutes. 5 minutes, later they already had a cheesesteak and a chicken cheesesteak and were waiting for me. I tried the steak sandwich - it was really good, and at $5.50, a better bargain than my Udon!

Granted the sandwich wasn't hugely overstuffed, but it was still a pretty decent size, the meat was good and the bread fresh and chewy. They also have burgers, fries, chili, hotdogs, etc., and they cook in the open so you can see everything. I'll be back next week to check out the other goods on the menu.

Plus, we were there in time to catch last night's Phillies highlights on the big screen. A special bonus!!

I was in the Market last week and Mike's was giving out free samples of their hoagies...they were really good ( I went back for seconds) I think this place will give DiBruno's a run for their money as the sandwiches are good and $2 cheaper!

According to their menu they use ribeye and fresh chicken breast. Ribeye usually makes a superior steak, IMO (a la Chubby's and Sonny's.) Joe's Pizza also makes a great downtown steak (rare for a pizza joint.)
