Where to buy cheap cuts of meat?

Hello, I'm new to the area - I live in Gramercy and I'm looking to stock up on meat for the winter. Meat prices at my local supermarkets are outrageous: $2.99/lb for ground pork, $4.49/lb for ground beef, $3.29/lb for whole chickens, etc..

Can anyone recommend a butcher or store somewhere in Manhattan that has reasonable prices for meat that I would feel good about buying from to stock up?

If you are buying to stock up by it by the side. Go upstate and get it from a farmer. Here is just one suggestion,

    "100% Grass Fed Beef
Raised on our neighbor's farm, this beef is 100% grass-fed and grass-finished. You get high quality, local, grass-fed beef at a price that beats the grocery store! Beef is $4 /lb, cut and wrapped in butcher's paper. Expect 100-175 lbs of beef per quarter. The steers are custom butchered to your specifications and are available immediately."

They have lamb and poultry also.

Thanks all, no idea how I missed that one as I regularly go there... Any stores in particular?

The place I usually go to is on Grand a few stores east of Bowery. I don't know the name, or if it even has one in English. Just to give you an idea, they have boneless pork loins, cut to order, at $2.99 a pound IIRC. Also, check grocery store circulars for specials online. Associated, for example, had skirt steak for $1.99 a pound a few weeks ago, and there's one of those on 1st and 14th, not far from you. You're in a pretty posh area of town, so you're probably going to have to walk several blocks at least to find bargains.

Three places: Chinatown, Chinatown, and Chinatown.

Go to Chinatown - the prices at the meat markets and supermarkets are pretty reasonable.

Western Beef has good prices on meat, many of which come in "family size" or even large unbutchered portions. The markets in Chinatown also tend to have good prices. I'm particularly keen on their ground pork as it has the proper fat-to-meat ratio for juicy dumplings and meatballs.
