Best Wine Pairing in LA?

I have recently tried wine pairing at Bistro LQ and XIV. While I was impressed by some of the pairings by the sommelier at BistroLQ, I was underwhelmed by the fact that these places poured wines off of their wine by the glass menu - nothing special. Does an LA restaurant offer wine pairing that goes beyond the wine by the glass menu? Prices would also be helpful.

If David Haskell is/becomes the sommelier, then by all means Vertical Wine Bar, upstairs at 70 North Raymond Ave., old town Pasadena. But not necessarily today with the 'ruins playing the bigger bears at the Rose Bowl just after lunch.

I would probably suggest going to a dinner that is sponsored by a wine store, like Wally's. That way you can try wine flights from a different region, etc... These dinners can be in the $100-$300pp range. Check with Wine House and localwineevents.com as well.

Normally the wines by the glass are chosen by the head sommelier and are tailored to be paired with current menu of the restaurant. That is why these wines are offered by the glass. I prefer it this way because then the wine is properly aerated. I don't equate the wine by the glass offerings as being sub-par, it really depends on what they are offering.
