Lunch near SD courthouse

keena Oct 15, 2009 07:22 PM

Well, I've been selected for jury duty. Any good ideas for lunch in the area? Today I walked to Salad Style--very nice but a little pricey and not so scenic to eat in that area. But I'd like something fun or healthy or tasty and it looks like it will be at least a week, so I am happy to hear all kinds of suggestions.

I go over to Extraordinary Desserts a few blocks away. I figure I deserve a treat for doing my civic duty!! They have light food, and, of course, extraordinary desserts!

Meatloaf at Karl Strauss on Wed was my top meal during jury duty, wasn't expecting much but I'm a sucker for meatloaf.

The Grand Central Cafe at the YMCA building is fun, tasty, sometimes healthy. Service is quick.

St Tropez at One America Plaza (600 W Broadway - beside the trolley tracks) is good too.

Currant is right there, I haven't been in a while so I am not sure how it is now.

          I liked it before.

Little Italy is not too far.

          Petrini's is decent and close.

That area is pretty rough though.

Surprisingly, the Mexican place on the ground foor of the courthouse is excellent. The bailiff in my courtroom one day took me there, introduced me to the staff and navigated me through the menu. For courthouse eats, I was astonished.

The state courthouse food court? It's been a while since I've dared to eat from any of the places there (horrific memories of something sold as pho but worse than any instant soup mix). Is the mexican food there better than Mexican Fiesta at 1460 India? That's my fallback mexican place (Machaca and Al Pastor burritos ... and then a nap).

I've ended up opting for turkey and cheese at Mimmo's on 2nd so far. You're all right, it's pretty dismal there. I don't really want to shell out a lot of money on lunch and your option is then fast food--yuk. Maybe back to Salad Style or trying out the Kebab shop...

Haven't been to Mexican Fiesta, but if I'm going to India my go-to place is the Pizza Grotto. Got a pie there, took it back to court and security almost confiscated it because it smelled so good. Then I almost took a nap as well. I will try Fiesta my next time down. Thanks for the tip.
