reasonable afternoon tea in London

Are there any good places for afternoon tea without spending too much? Would prefer some place not too dressy either. Someone suggested Fornum and Mason, worth trying?

Brumus at the Haymarket Hotel for excellently rendered classics, was under £20 when I ate there. The Stafford Hotel is also worth checking out -- similar quality to Brumus, slightly more elegant environs and slightly pricier.

Fortnum & Mason is OK. From what I remember, the tea at Sotheby's Auction House sounds upscale, but the prices are really not too bad.

I had tea at Brumus on Tuesday and simply can't agree. I plan to post a review shortly, but as I recently had tea at the Mandeville for all over £4 more, I would place it far above the average food and truly shocking service experienced at Brumus.

Did you you get the chocolate fig beignets at the Mandeville?

My Brumus experience wasn't as recent, so looking forward to your update.

No, but the man I was with did, and I was very jealous after he pronounced it to be "glorious".
