Tips for Dining, Eating, and Food Shopping in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and The Bronx

Anella in Greenpoint -- has anyone been?

This place opened in the old Queen's Hideaway space a few months ago. On the positive side, the space looks much, much better than it did as QH and the service was really excellent.

On the negative side, well, the food. We had the margherita pizza which was kind of a disaster. They serve it on an oval serving plate, so it's a smallish pizza in the shape of the ellipse. The part of the pizza where the toppings were comprised about 50% of the pizza, so it was a whole lotta crust. That would have been maybe OK if the crust was tasty. But it was chewy, bland and definitely undersalted.

We also had the gemelli with roasted squash and bleu cheese. The bleu cheese was nowhere to be found, so it was a huge bowl of pasta and roasted squash (neither of which had much flavor) and no other seasoning. They don't provide salt and pepper on the table, so we had to summon or server twice to add S&P, which helped a bit, but not enough by any stretch.

Has anyone else been? Did we experience an off night, or is it Bland City on Franklin street?
