At the top of the Restaurants & Bars page for the San Francisco region,
http://www.chow.com/restaurants/regions/1/san-francisco-bay-area .
the search box is preloaded with "San Francisco". However, when I try to find something by typing a criteria in for something near "San Francisco", I get this message.

"We could not understand the location San Francisco.

Suggestions:

    * San Francisco, CA
    * 2nd and Howard, San Francisco, Ca
    * 94105"

I was just going to post about this. The ability to add a new restuarant is gone.

Even if entering San Francisco, Ca you get that message.

Ditto for New York.

I was still able to search for places using Google (venue name + site:chow.com).

And here's a link that should give you the "Add a Restaurant or Bar" option ... http://search.chow.com/search?query=a&location=&type=Restaurant&board_ids=17+18+19+20+21&advanced=1&sort_mode=best_match

I'm now finding that San Francisco works but other, not clearly defined, subdivisions don't. I can't search on many of our own suggestions. I've raised a ticket for Engineering to take a look.
