Need some help finding organic short ribs for a potluck dinner on Halloween? I searched the board and found some options but the few places that were mentioned don't have short ribs available (Organic Pastures don't have in stock and Organic Prarie doesn't carry short ribs). I called Whole Foods and they have organic short ribs but they are $9.99 per lb, which is more than 3x what Organic Pastures charges.

I live on Olympic/Robertson and work in Irvine. I'm open to any places in between off the 405 and within 15 mile radius of my house.

I'm hoping there are some other reasonably priced organic options for short ribs somebody could steer me towards. Thanks.

Nope. Just Whole Foods. Sorry. MAYBE a Gelsons, but I would call first.

Have you considered bison? Lindner bison at the Hollywood farmer's market is grass fed and wonderful. They often have short ribs.

If you want to eat organic grass fed meat on a routine basis, you might want to buy in bulk. I like Eight O'Clock Ranch in New York.

Nope we'd like to stick with beef short ribs for this particular recipe. I did read a few positive comments about Lindner bison during my research and we'll give them a try down the line.

I came across Open Space Meats and was wondering if anybody has tried the products from both Organic Pastures and Open Space Meats (grassfed)? I am probably going to order my short ribs from 1 of these 2 purveyors depending on availability.

I've been buying from Open Space for the past 6 months. I buy an assortment of steaks, roasts, etc. that weighs about 20lbs. At this point, I would say the quality is good, but can vary.

I've had some really delicious steaks/roasts and some very gamey ones. The thing is, you really have to manage the cooking process; if they overcook at all, the texture gets chewy and it doesn't taste as good.

I'm making short ribs tomorrow night and I expect they will be pretty good; hard to mess up a braise! BTW, Organic Pastures meat is also 100% grass-fed.

Yes it's hard to "over cook" a braise. I think Open Space will be my fall back if Organic Pastures doesn't get short ribs in the next 11 days. I would prefer to pick them up at the Wednesday SM farmers market just to see the product. Plus it is about $1.50 cheaper per lb. Thanks for the feedback.

BTW, I just ordered (online) a variety of organic, grass-fed meat (including short-ribs) from Alderspring Ranch (www.alderspring.com).

They have a promotion going right now with free shipping (if you live in CA) on an order of $175 or more. I bought about 25 lbs of meat for $180; pretty solid deal for organic, dry-aged beef!
