Asian Pearl Sacramento - CLOSED
It was great to have decent traditional Cantonese food on the north side of town. But we should have known it was too good to last.
The place was obviously having difficulty making a go of it. One Sunday we went in for dim sum and they were out of most of the items on the menu. They changed up the lunch menu; goodbye frog congee with you tiao, hello $3.99 sweet-and-sour pork. The tablecloths disappeared, and the default utensil went from a pair of chopsticks to a fork.
Anyway, I was hankering braised cod filet with tofu, so I headed over there for lunch yesterday. The door was locked with a "Three Day Notice to Pay Rent or Quit" taped to it. The website is 404, and the links to it from the other CWI restaurant sites are severed.
So if you live in the neighborhood and want jellyfish salad, sizzled beef with goose intestines, or oyster and roast pork hot pot, you're going to have to drive across town again. General Tso's Chicken has been re-established as the epitome of Chinese cuisine in Carmichael, Fair Oaks, and Citrus Heights. RIP Asian Pearl.

Wonder if there's some kind of turmoil arising from the ownership changes/separation. The branch of The Kitchen in the LA area also closed down, which was quite surprising.

The place appears to be on the verge of reincarnation. The new sign says "Ocean Pearl." People working inside. The old menus are still taped to the window, so I'm guessing the food may be the same.

Asian Pearl has moved to Stockton and 65th. Now our new fav dim sum spot. Same quality as New Canton (same ownership) in a much bigger, brighter, newer space, with lots of parking.

Asian Pearl 2009 on Stockton opened while Asian Pearl Sacramento was still in business. So it wasn't a move so much as an expansion.
There appears to have been a shakeup at Culinary Wonderland, Inc., the company that owned both restaurants. It's now known as Asian Pearl Group. In addition to AP Sacramento, per Chandavai above the company shuttered The Kitchen in LA. Moreover, it appears from the New Canton website that New Hong Kong Wok and Macau Cafe are no longer affiliated with the group.
I saw an "open" sign lit in the window of Ocean Pearl at 8:30 this morning, although the door was locked. There are condiments on the tables and menus on the hostess stand, including what looks to be a banquet menu in Chinese.
I'm thinking that CWI's owners have had a parting of the ways, and that the restaurants have been split up. If the owners of Ocean Pearl can provide the quality found at NHKW and Macau, I'm certainly not going to complain.

The new place is open. I've changed the name on the link. Ate there for lunch today. Here's my initial take: http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/684869
