We've spoken of NY pizza, and NY bagels and NY lox and NY deli (my husband was once in a pastrami taste off 25 years ago promoted by a radio station and the sandwich that won was on white bread. With tomatoes. And mayo. Enough said).

So I come to you Chowhounds with this question:

does ANYWHERE make the knishes that I grew up on (and grew fat on) in New York that are flat, not puffy, square not round, with those sharp, crunchy ends?

Thanks!

Thanks to you both - I forgot about the Stand - they do have a fairly decent knish!

Not the knish of my dreams but Tommy Pastrami does a decent, crunchy, square knish. There are several in O.C. and one in DTLA. http://tommypastraminydeli.com/

We went to the Stand in Westwood this past weekend. They don't have the square knishes any longer - they have what I can only describe as knish sliders! Small round knish bites. The taste might be similar but the whole crunch factor of getting a hard edge of the knish is missing now.
