That's easy -- Arepas Cafe on 36th Ave in south Astoria/LIC. Venezualan style arepas -- great fillings. My personal favorites are the Reina and Guyanesa Tropical.

I second the Reina, or better yet the Bomba which is Reina with even more stuff in it!

For non-Venezualan style arepas, Rico Pan on Woodside Ave around 59th st sells Arepas con Queso and the arepas are incredibly sweet with a strong corn flavor while the cheese is is intense, salty and warm. Delicious. Their beef and chicken empanadas are great as well.

I only look for arepas from one source: the arepa lady. Fri/Sat after 10pm. Roosevelt and somewhere between 78th and 79th.

You might want to do a search for a women known as " The Sainted Arepa Lady". Located near 79 and Roosevelt, late nights, much has been written about her. She was quite the Chowhound sensation at the turn of the century. She had a myspace, by now she probably twitters.

For papusas (similar to arepas), El Comal in Jamaica on Hillside Ave near 150 st. is excellent.
