AJ's Famous BBQ (Phoenix)

Hi all! I have been a longtime reader of Chowhound but this is actually my first post. So I was craving BBQ ribs the other day and decided to take the advice of a friend to visit AJ's Famous BBQ in south Phoenix. I was a bit skeptical as I drove through some rough neighborhoods to get there....I was even more nervous when there was no one inside the place when I got there (though it was 4 in the afternoon). However, I had the best fall off the bone pork BBQ ribs ever! The ribs had such an amazing smokey flavor that only comes from many many many hours on the smoker. The number 9 dinner comes with 2 sides and 3 ginormous ribs. The owner greeted us with great southern hospitality, and told us all about how he grows his own black eyed peas and buys his greens from local growers. Honey Bear's doesnt even come close to this place. If you are craving some true southern classic BBQ, this is the place to go!

Another South Phoenix BBQ gem is Mim's Burger and Mexican food, 2707 E Broadway Road. It's on the south side in a little yellow shack. It's as ghetto as they come...but definitely worth a stop.
